In 1986 the Professional Picture Framing Association, the largest international trade association for the framing industry started a program of testing individuals knowledge of framing technology. The PPFA helps to maintain the highest industry standards by conducting classes and workshops in all phases of a gallery/custom picture framing business. Some topics include business practices and procedures, preservation techniques, design and color theory, mechanical techniques in the construction of the entire picture frame package, etc.
Jerome Feig successfully passed a four hour examination of pratical applications and technical knowledge. He is one of approximately 3,000 framers worldwide to be awarded this prestigious designation CERTIFIED PICTURE FRAMER™ (CPF™) since 1986.
He continues to stay abreast with the latest changes in the industry with continued education and a network of contacts he has cultivated who are occasionally consulted for second opinions. As with any area of expertise, the knowledge of many is greater that of only one.
It is this knowledge and training that Mr. Feig brings to the entire staff of Field Art Studio the highest standards and technical know how in the art and framing industry. FRAMING STANDARDS
Until recently, there were no industry wide standards for materials, their use and framing practices. Manufactures used all sorts of adjectives to describe their products and its uses. Picture framers used whatever materials, description and technique they wanted.
WHAT IS A MUSEUM MOUNT?
IS IT ACID FREE?
To answer these and many more questions FACTS (Fine Art Care and Treatment Standards) was organized in 1994 to make some sense out of the confusion in terminology and practices. Several committees were formed within this organization to write standards for materials and practices. The GAFP (Generally Accepted Framing Practices) is one of these committees. This committee is comprised of 35 individuals throughout the industry. Jerome Feig has been a member of this committee since 1996.
Today there are standards to go by. Written by FACTS, these standards are accepted by the PPFA as their standards and as the standards by many manufacturers in the industry.
Feel free to ask if what you are having framed meets these standards for maximum preservation protection of your cherished art or momento.
